May Day Event 2024
The Traditional May Day Event will be held on Monday 6 May 2024 1.00pm-4.30pm at Whitwell Community Centre, with Maypole Dancing and much more - everyone welcome. Click for further information.
Whitwell is a thriving parish with strong community spirit. The parish has many active clubs and societies, including Whitwell Scout & Guide Group, Local History Group, Whitwell Players, Whitwell Brass Band, C of E and Methodist Churches, Natural History Group, Green Bowls Club, Cricket Club and Junior Football Club.
Whitwell Parish Council is a forward-thinking council with a principal role to provide for government and management of its area at local level. Specifically, councils are required to act as a representative, informed and responsible decision-maker in the interests of its community.
As a Local Council it has an extensive range of discretionary powers, enabling it to provide and maintain a variety of important and visible local services. This can be clearly evidenced in our community with the provision of open spaces, recreation equipment, allotments, cemetery, community buildings, as well as the provision of entertainment with the annual village gala and firework display to name a few.
The following powers and duties are all under the remit of Whitwell Parish Council:-
